In this respect, some studies indicate a strong positive correlation between CHFR promoter methylation and the risk of developing gastric cancer (32), CHFR promoter methylation is higher in tumors than in normal gastric tissues and is significantly associated with positive node metastasis (33), suggesting that although CHFR promoter hypermethylation seemed to be associated with gastric neoplasia, it may also play a protective role during the carcinogenesis process. This evidence concerns the gene CHFR and gastric cancer.
