A specific and distinct subtype of AML classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) and currently referred as APL with PML-RARA (O'Donnell et al., 2017) is the Ate promyelocytic leukemia (APL), also named as AML-M3 by the French-American-British (FAB) classification system (Warrell et al., 1993; Puccetti and Ruthardt 2004). The gene discussed is RARA; the disease is acute myeloid leukemia.
