Alveolar macrophages from sarcoidosis patients secrete large amounts of chemokines such as monokine induced by interferon-γ (Mig)/CXCL9, IP-10/CXCL10, and interferon-inducible T cell α chemoattractant (I-TAC)/CXCL11, which are all CXCR3 ligands and play crucial roles in the accumulation of Th1 lymphocytes in sarcoid lungs (67). The gene discussed is CXCL11; the disease is sarcoidosis.
