Increase in the Ang-2:Ang-1 ratio in women with a positive episode of parasitemia during pregnancy has been reported and sustained Ang-2 levels during pregnancy may result in the formation of new blood vessels instead of vessel maturation; this may explain the excessive fetal vessels observed in infected placentas (Leke et al., 2004; Silver et al., 2010). Here, ANGPT2 is linked to parasitic infectious disease.
