In Figure 1 and Supplementary file 1—Table 2, results from SMR analysis found a suggestive evidence for the association of the increased expression of HMGCR gene in blood (equivalent to a one standard deviation increase) with the higher risk of COVID-19 susceptibility (odds ratio [OR] = 1.30, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.05–1.61; p = 0.017) and COVID-19 hospitalization (OR = 1.38, 95% CI = 1.06–1.81; p = 0.019), indicating that HMGCR inhibitors might lower the risk of COVID-19 susceptibility and hospitalization. This evidence concerns the gene HMGCR and COVID-19.
