14-3-3 proteins have been found colocalised with tau in NFTs extracted from AD brains (Layfield et al., 1996; Umahara et al., 2004), and they were suggested to promote tau protein aggregation and fibrillization in a phosphorylation-dependent manner (Hernández et al., 2004; Sadik et al., 2009).
