It has been shown that in a DCM mouse model, glucolipotoxicity effects resulting from chronic diabetes, would promote lipid peroxidation; while inactivating Nrf2-mediated antioxidant defenses and impairing Nrf2-coordinated iron metabolism (Chien et al., 2020) would promote the expression of ferroptosis and exacerbate the progression of DCM (Zang et al., 2020).
