Most factors for which a sex difference was found, were measured 1–3 months after stroke (FVII, FXI, PAI-1, and Protein S) (Mansfield et al., 1998; Kain et al., 2001, 2002; Haapaniemi et al., 2002; Saidi et al., 2007; Santamaria et al., 2007) and are, therefore, not severely influenced by the acute phase of ischemic stroke. This evidence concerns the gene SERPINE1 and stroke disorder.
