GFAP and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: Glial fibrillary acidic protein expression was increased in the hindlimb of GFAP-luc/SOD1G93A mice at disease onset in damaged sciatic nerves ALS, suggesting that GFAP upregulation could be a valid marker at peripheral axons/neuromuscular junction and in the spinal cord/brain area according to the ALS pathogenesis stage (Keller et al., 2009).
