In 2019, Ellison pointed out that the failure of some studies to support the co-administration strategy might have been due to the relatively high mean serum albumin levels in hypoalbuminemia groups, such as the mean albumin level of 3.4 g/dL in Charokopos’ trial and the mean albumin level of 3.0 g/dL in Chalasani’s trial, in comparison to those in animal models.
