Interestingly, these elevated viral titers in HLA-DR15+ animals were accompanied by an increased expansion of CD8+ T cells and higher T cell activation, similar to the clinical manifestation of IM symptoms [50], implicating a poor MHC class II-mediated immune control of EBV infection in HLA-DR15 carriers (Figure 1).
