GLO1 and infection: We found a strong increase in GLO1 mRNA levels and enzymatic-specific activity in wild-type mice infected with A. fumigatus (Figure 1a) as opposed to the modest modulation of GLO1 expression and activity in CftrF508del mice (Figure 1a), suggesting that GLO1 might be impaired in CF and unable to cope with the dicarbonyl stress expected in the hypoxic and inflammatory environment associated with the infection.
