In animal models of obesity and insulin resistance it was shown that the inhibition of FABP4 protein in macrophages reduces inflammatory cytokines (MCP-1, IL-1β, IL-6 and TNFα) and the formation of atherosclerotic lesions and foam cells and improves insulin sensitivity [106,107]. The gene discussed is CCL2; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
