With the addition of third generation cytotoxic drugs, such as gemcitabine and paclitaxel, newer antifolate drugs (pemetrexed) and anti-vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF), such as bevacizumab, into the chemotherapeutic regimens of patients with advanced NSCLC, this treatment modality has undergone substantial changes over the years, all of which have demonstrated improvement in survivability of patients [11]. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is non-small cell lung carcinoma.
