While Hung et al. did not distinguish allopurinol-induced SJS/TEN from DRESS, more than half of the patients in that study had DRESS, and all of them had the HLA-B*58:01 allele, indicating that allopurinol induced DRESS is extremely likely to be related with HLA-B*58:0. The gene discussed is HLA-B; the disease is Schwartz-Jampel syndrome.
