Despite the fact that CCL2 overexpression has been correlated with poor HCC patient prognosis, and promising results of CCR2 KO/antagonism in experimental HCC, translation of these encouraging findings to the clinic should be done with certain caution, as the CCR2/CCL2 axis thus seems to play a context-dependent tumor-promoting or protective role in hepatocarcinogenesis-mediated monocyte recruitment [109,373].
