In this study, we continued to investigate the expression pattern of the tissue biomarker CD44 in homogenous and non-homogenous leukoplakias, as our previous studies have revealed that CD44 intra–cytoplasmatic and membranous expression can be recommended as an early indicator of signs of malignant transformation in non-homogeneous leukoplakia and possible loss of stemness [68]. This evidence concerns the gene CD44 and Oral leukoplakia.
