In the study of Guiguet et al. of the large ANRS CO4 FHDH cohort [21], which investigated the incidence of cancer among more than 50,000 PLHIV followed in France between 1998 and 2006, the risk of KS (n = 565) steadily increased as the recent CD4 cell count decreased and recent viral replication rose (see Figure 1). The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is Kaposi's sarcoma.
