A single-centre RCT in patients undergoing off-pump cardiac surgery showed that the correction of hypoalbuminemia (<4 g/dL) by administering 100, 200 or 300 mL of human albumin at 20% according to preoperative serum albumin concentration immediately before surgery was associated with increased urine output during surgery and a reduced risk of postoperative AKI [27]. The gene discussed is ALB; the disease is acute kidney injury.
