Bexarotene (1), similar to 9-cis-RA, incites these side effects by disrupting nonpermissive heterodimers—hypothyroidism by RXR-TR [35] disruption—or stimulating the permissive heterodimers—hyperlipidemia via RXR-LXR activation [36,37] and cutaneous toxicity [38] from RAR activity at high dose concentrations.
