Unlike most common and congenital nevi and malignant melanomas, they lack oncogenic BRAF and NRAS mutations and harbor tumorigenic HRAS mutations or kinase gene fusions involving ALK, BRAF, MET, NTRK1, NTRK3, RET, and ROS1 in a mutually exclusive pattern [5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17].
