One promising antioxidant strategy that has been studied in neurological disorders, including epilepsy, is the upregulation of the transcription factor, nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), a major transactivator of cytoprotective genes, such as NAD(P)H: quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) and heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) [13].
