A higher prevalence of AF was observed in modest alcohol users that harbored ALDH2 polymorphism compared to regular drinkers without ALDH2 polymorphism and non-drinkers (15.5 vs. 11.1 and 1.8%, respectively; p = 0.042) and the values remained relatively unchanged after adjustments were performed for baseline CHARGE-AF scores (Table 4); however, the underlying risk factors and baseline demographics were comparable between the two habitual alcohol consumption groups with and without ALDH2 polymorphism (Table 1).
