Our findings are in accordance with the previous investigation of critically ill COVID-19 patients by Zhou F et al. [20] and Tang N et al. [21], where the mortality rate was reported to be around 30% due to old age and multiple comorbidities alongside inflammatory biomarkers, including elevated D-dimers on admission, increased prothrombin time and high IL-6 as well as troponin T levels. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and COVID-19.
