HMGCR inhibition with specific statin-like drugs has been found to inhibit monolayer and ovarian tumor spheroid cellular proliferation and tumor growth in xenograft mouse models, enhance autophagy, induce cellular arrest in G0/G1, promote extrinsic and mitochondrial (intrinsic) apoptosis with increased activity of caspase-3, 8, 9 and elevated Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) cleavage, and increase the sensitivity of ovarian cancer cells to carboplatin (35, 37, 56, 57). Here, HMGCR is linked to neoplasm.
