Mechanistically, ENPP2 hydrolyzes LPC to produce LPA (Salgado-Polo et al., 2018), a lipid mediator that functions as a mitogen and motility factor to stimulate proliferation, migration, and survival of cancer cells through combination with the LPA receptors (LPAR) (Houben and Moolenaar, 2011), which are overlapping specificities and have widespread distribution (Choi et al., 2010).
