The cytokine IL-10 is a key anti-inflammatory cytokine to protect the host from overexuberant responses to microbiota and pathogens and functions as a negative regulator of immune responses to microbial antigens while playing important roles in maintaining the intestinal microbe–immune homeostasis, sterile wound healing, autoimmunity, cancer, and homeostasis (Neumann et al., 2019; Saraiva et al., 2020). This evidence concerns the gene IL10 and cancer.
