PLIN3 and cervical carcinoma: This project started when, in the course of our studies on ATG9A trafficking, structure and function52,60, we noticed that CRISPR-Cas9 KO of ATG9A in the human cervical carcinoma HeLa cell line (Fig. 1b) increased the number and size of LDs, as visualized by staining with the neutral lipid dye BODIPY 493/503 (henceforth referred to as BODIPY 493) or an antibody to the LD-associated protein PLIN3 (perilipin 3, also known as TIP47)62 (Fig. 1c–e).
