Ferroptotic tumor cells induced by excessive iron overload can release 8-OHG, the main product of oxidative DNA damage, to activate the stimulator of interferon genes protein (STING)-mediated DNA sensor pathway in TAMs, which results in TAMs infiltration and M2 polarization, thus enhancing pancreatic carcinogenesis (Dai et al., 2020b). This evidence concerns the gene STING1 and neoplasm.
