Despite reports strongly suggesting that P2X7 is necessary for the development of cell-mediated acquired immunity for other infectious diseases (Corrêa et al., 2010; Lees et al., 2010; Salles et al., 2017), the type of immunity that is protective against M. leprae, there are no studies on the genetic association between leprosy and SNPs of P2RX7. This evidence concerns the gene P2RX7 and infectious disease.
