S. Verstovsek et al. found that plasma HGF levels were significantly higher in AML patients compared to healthy, and the results of multivariate analysis showed that elevated plasma HGF levels as a prognostic factor in AML were associated with shorter survival in AML patients, but they suggested that this variation in results may be due to differences in the samples (plasma rather than serum) (Verstovsek et al., 2001). Here, HGF is linked to acute myeloid leukemia.
