Administration of the small molecule, 5,15-di phenyl porphyrin (DPP), a selective inhibitor of IL-10/STAT3 signaling, has been shown to reduce pathologic neovascularization and Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) via inhibition of alternative activation and M2 polarization of macrophages (26). This evidence concerns the gene STAT3 and age-related macular degeneration.
