Our findings are consistent with those of previous studies reporting favorable metabolic phenotypes induced by empagliflozin in obese mice fed a high-fat diet, in which an increase in energy expenditure, elevated expression of UCP1 in WAT, attenuation of inflammation, and alleviation of hepatic steatosis were observed (Xu et al., 2017, 2019). This evidence concerns the gene UCP1 and fatty liver disease.
