Since PDAC patients often have a need for replacement of insulin-producing β cells, i.e., due to tumor-induced destruction of pancreatic islets or long-standing chronic type 2 diabetes associated with hypoinsulinemia, in vivo transdifferentiation of metastatic tumor cells to insulin-producing cells represents a “two birds with one stone” strategy for fighting cancer and restoring glucose homeostasis. The gene discussed is INS; the disease is Hypoinsulinemia.
