Indeed, several other studies revealed that some cold thyroid nodules express normal, or even higher, NIS levels compared with adjacent normal tissue, but NIS is frequently intracellularly retained, suggesting the presence of posttranslational abnormalities in the transport and retention of the protein at the PM [8,18,19,73,74,75,76,77].
