CD8A and cancer: The lytic effect of syncytia formation by oncolytic viruses is multifactorial and related to direct cancer cell killing, due to e.g., induction of apoptosis, necrosis and autophagy, bystander effects of non-infected cells and non-cancer cells, and induction of an adaptive immune response (release of tumor antigens, activation of dendritic cells, cytotoxic CD8 T-cells) (for review see [115,116]).
