The concentration of homocysteine is a modifiable proatherogenic factor; therefore, the identification of a possible direct link between hiperhomocysteinemia and Il-1β, Il-6, Il-10, Il-12 and RANTES secretion by PBMNCs could be of particular importance, considering the constantly increasing number of patients suffering from civilization diseases closely related to atherosclerosis. This evidence concerns the gene CCL5 and atherosclerosis.
