A study conducted by Yeung et al. among premenopausal African-American and European-American women indicated that the ratio of trunk fat to limb fat is significantly inversely correlated with sex-hormone binding globulin, which is associated with increased risk of type 2 diabetes after controlling for homeostasis model assessment–insulin resistance, estradiol, physical activity, and caloric intake [42]. This evidence concerns the gene SHBG and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
