CD68 and COVID-19: As well as lymphocytes, macrophages also play a key role in COVID-19-induced response, as highlighted in the works of both Conde et al. [13] and Suess et al. [14], where the immunohistochemical reactivity for CD68 revealed the presence of intra-alveolar macrophage infiltrates, showing viral cytopathic-like changes, such as vesicular nuclei with prominent nucleoli, together with occasional multinucleated giant cells.
