Interestingly, treatment of colon cancer cell lines with the DNA methylation inhibitor 5-aza-2′-deoxycytidine (GSE51815 study) caused a decrease of methylation in all 14 DMCs located throughout ENPP2 (Supplementary Table S1), implying that methylation could present a potential therapeutic target to reverse the aggressive phenotype. This evidence concerns the gene ENPP2 and colonic neoplasm.
