Analyses identified a series of highly expressed metabolic genes, including thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP), zyg-11 homolog A (ZYG11A), etc. The roles of some of these novel genes in the context of LS pathogenesis and, in particular, the putative cancer-protective tasks of these gene products were recently described [39,40]. The gene discussed is TXNIP; the disease is Leigh syndrome.
