Among the many antifibrotic factors (e.g., hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) [13,14] and bone morphogenetic protein-7 (BMP-7) [14,15], Klotho [16]), the multifunctional innate cytokine interleukin-15 (IL-15) has been implicated in the protection of fibrosis development in the lung [17], pancreas islets [18], and liver fibrosis [19] in animals. This evidence concerns the gene HGF and Hepatic fibrosis.
