By diminishing the inhibitory effect of dopamine on prolactin secretion in the pituitary gland, antipsychotics often cause hyperprolactinaemia (González-Rodríguez, Labad, & Seeman, 2020), which can result in galactorrhoea, cessation of normal cyclic ovarian function and hirsutism (Malik et al., 2011; Peuskens, Pani, Detraux, & De Hert, 2014). Here, PRL is linked to hyperprolactinemia.
