IL17A and COVID-19: This chemokine induces neutrophil degranulation, promoting a pro-thrombotic state.30 IL-12p70 and IL-17A are cytokines that remain high in convalescent severe COVID-19 patients and are related to chronic inflammation and long-lasting symptoms.29 Besides, elevated IL-17A has been observed in late-stage severe COVID-19 cases33,34 and has been related to increased morbidity and mortality.35 IL-17A is a pro-inflammatory cytokine related to enhanced endothelial damage and platelet activation leading to thrombosis,36 which are fundamental features of severe COVID-19.
