Caveolins are a family of integral membrane proteins that are the main membrane components of Caveolae, and associated with various human diseases such as breast cancer, brain tumors, inflammation, and obesity [23–25], and CAV1 is a 22 kDa protein and located on chromosome 7q31.2, and also encoded by a 36.4 kb gene [26]. Here, CAV1 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
