AKT1 and cancer: SIK2 enhances the level of HIF-1α through activation of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway and also activates Drp1 phosphorylation-mediated mitochondrial fission and promotes metabolic reprogramming to switch from oxidative phosphorylation to glycolysis, which is known as Warburg effect, in ovarian cancer cells to supply cellular energy for the progression and metastasis of the cancer cells (Gao et al., 2020).
