Only mice with SE > CT biofilm catheters developed severe sepsis as indicated by 30% mortality rate in this group, while there was no mortality in other biofilm groups (Figure 7A), possibly due to the most prominence (among all groups) in the level of fungemia (but not bacteremia), systemic cytokines (TNF-α and IL-6 but not IL-10), renal injury (serum creatinine), and liver damage (alanine transaminase) (Figures 7A–H).
