TP53 and non-small cell lung carcinoma: In line with these observations, p53 expression has been identified as a biomarker of resistance to the glycolysis inhibitor 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2DG) such that p53-deficient NSCLC cells (H358) exhibit significantly reduced ATP levels accompanied by profound oxidative stress when treated with 2DG (53) suggesting that glycolysis inhibition would be preferentially beneficial in tumors lacking p53.
