Ultimately, using this approach, the authors identified 133 key driver genes which could regulate the IBD CIC networks, five of which had not been previously associated with IBD including DOCK2, DOK3, AIF1, GPSM3, NCKAP1L. The expression of these genes were shown to correlate with disease duration and also were upregulated in inflamed IBD patient intestinal biopsies. This evidence concerns the gene DOCK2 and inflammatory bowel disease.
