ACE2 and Alzheimer disease: Given that the gene expression of ACE2 is upregulated in the brains of patients with AD and may be associated with the mortality rate from COVID-19 in the elderly (Fu et al., 2020; Lim et al., 2020), we hypothesize that NRP1, which codes for a newly recognized SARS-CoV-2 spike receptor, may be also increased in AD patients.
